SHADES OF SONG

About

Aitzi Cofre Real and Scottie Thompson are a piano-vocal duo that met during their  studies in London. Inspired by the musical explorations of Norma Winstone and John Taylor, the duo shares a passion for the Great American Songbook but also ventures into other genres. Their musical repertoire draws from jazz standards, contemporary compositions, folk and Latin American music.

They perform regularly in various venues across the UK, captivating audiences with their subtle, lyrical and sometimes energetic interplay. Together they blend their influences seamlessly, creating a distinctive and original sound that reflects their personalities and musical backgrounds.

Scottie Thompson is a pianist and composer from Portsmouth. He has performed in a variety of styles at major clubs, venues and festivals across the UK. He is currently a student at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studies piano under Kit Downes, Gwilym Simcock and Nikki Iles and composition with Pete Churchill. In the past year Scottie has performed original music with his trio as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival, as well as playing with Emma Rawicz’s band at Ronnie Scott’s and Jazz Cafe. He recently performed the music of John Mayer as part of the ‘Indo-Jazz Fusions Revisited’ at Spice of Life, where his playing was described as “outstanding” by London Jazz News.

Aside from performing, Scottie has won multiple composition awards, with some of his arrangements having been played on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM in recent years.

Scottie draws from a myriad of musical styles in his playing; an extensive knowledge of the jazz tradition combined with classical training, as well as his love for folk, rock and ambient music all accumulate to form his distinctive sound at the piano. His primary influences range from the likes of Hank Jones and Oscar Peterson to Keith Jarrett and John Taylor, Pat Metheney, Nick Drake and Elliott Smith.
